Dance Journey

“The spirit likes to dress up like this: ten fingers, ten toes”
— Mary Oliver, Dreamworks

Our spirits come alive through our bodies and through our movements. What joy! The Dance Journey Process, which I coalesced over a period of years, builds on the theme of spirit shining through body, and reclaiming inner wisdom and power to create positivity through movement play.

The practices involve body awareness and movement, deepening loving presence with your experience as it occurs, and moving into friendly, light-hearted expression to shift difficulties and access your creative potential.

The next Dance Journey event is Friday, June 13, 2014 at Big Bend Yoga Center in Webster Groves.
The next Dancing Your Life Journey Playshop is Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Casa Bagus in St. Louis.
Registration for both events here.

The Dance Journey Process consists of three stages of practice:

* Dance Journey Events, 2nd Friday evening of each month
* Daylong Dancing Your Life Journey Playshops, occasionally throughout the year
* Multi-Day Dance Journey Retreats, once per year

These stages may be complimented and supported through coaching, which I offer via skype. Each stage is designed to support a specific area of learning.

The first stage, Friday evening Dance Journey, has two main objectives:
Gradually share the core curriculum, based on the 4 Pillars of Integrity as created by Drs. Katie and Gay Hendricks, in digestible, small bites.

Utilizing Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey monomyth as a structure for a movement playlist, to introduce and invite a deepening understanding of the mind’s perceiving what happens in life through the filter of stories, and that some of the stories we consciously and unconsciously believe cause limitation and suffering.

The second stage, a series of Daylong Dancing Your Life Journey Playshops, is designed to create conscious companionship in practicing the tools in the core curriculum to support an ever-deepening ability to shift challenges and create an embodied experience of flow and expansion.

The third stage, Dance Journey Retreat, is to support participants in clarity about their core limiting belief(s) and to directly contact life energy animating limiting stories to create consciously in life and relationships, and to live in a state of continuous discovery, love, and creativity.

Video Blog – Expressing Feelings

I find dancing and movement a reliable way to notice how I am, my sensations, feelings, direction my energy is moving, and to welcome how I am without judgment, and create what I call body empathy – movement to match my inner experience. In the video below, my intention is movement in friendly ways to express big energy and big feelings.

I invite you to join me in your own expression of energy and body empathy!

Rewriting Your Story

Spoiler alert. If you haven’t seen Saving Mr. Banks and you want to see it, don’t read this. Yet. Till after you see the movie.

I love how in the movie, the author’s past was woven into her writing of Mary Poppins. And as she explored selling the rights to make her book into a movie, she was reminded not only of the story she had written, but also of the story she had lived. And, most of all, I love how Walt Disney – in the form of actor, Tom Hanks – invited her to re-write the ending of her story and in the process to create completion for herself in relation to her past. In my experience, this kind of completion and the re-writing of a new story is only possible after the old painful story and feelings are faced and felt. Only then can a new story be created.

And this, in essence, the nature of my work with Transformation Playground: facing, feeling, healing the past, and becoming available now to write and live a new story, the one you choose to create!

Moving and dancing to discover from the inside out – Antakarana part 3 of 3

This segment is part 3 of the Antakarana meditation series. The focus is on dancing and moving your body in friendly ways as you discover and express how you are inside. I invite you to join me in friendly movement that matches your inner thoughts and feelings, and feels organic and easeful in your body.

The music is Sweet in the Mornin’ by Bobby McFerrin and Voicestra, from his Medicine Music release.

Moving and dancing with awareness of sensations on the skin – Antakarana part 2 of 3

Today’s segment is inspired by step 2 of the Antakarana Meditation – focusing on the surface of the skin. Will you join me today in moving and dancing your body in friendly ways, as you sense the surface of your skin? My thought as I write – YUM!

The music is What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong.

Moving with awareness of sound – Antakarana part 1 of 3

This is the beginning of a three part series where we’ll focus on each of the three parts of the Antakarana Meditation, which begins with an external focus, and moves inward for part 2, and more inward for part 3. In this segment (part 1), the focus is on moving and dancing your body while listening to sound. I invite you to join me, and to move and dance your body in easy, friendly ways as you listen to sounds.

The music for this segment is Tough and Tender, by Harry Manx from the Album West Eats Meet.

Dancing to connect with the sun and solar qualities – Cave of the Heart part 8 of 8

This is the eighth and last movement segment correlating with the Cave of the Heart meditation. In this segment, the focus is on the sun, and solar or masculine qualities of movement. I invite you to join me in moving your body in friendly ways, as you explore your solar and masculine qualities of action.

The music for this segment is Bob Holroyd’s Drumming Up a Storm, from AO Alpha Omega.
